Dongshan Rover Eco Park: Project Statement

Dongshan River Forest Park aims at the three-dimensional experience, interweaving the land and water circulations of both human and non-human species. With the elevated railway and tunnels, the eighteen-acre rice field is transformed into a setting for environmental education as well as a place for everyday strolling. In the shaping of diverse experiences, the multitude of natural habitats from wetlands to forests is combined with waterborne activities such as boating and environmental interpretations. The integration of ecological tourism and community industry in the park is a welcomed gem that crowns the decades-long planning of the Dongshan River Landscape and Recreation Master Plan. This interweaving of the pedestrian, navigation, and railway circulations on the site creates the three-dimensional space in the park. Together with the belvedere and demonstration aboriginal houses, the park serves as the infrastructure that accommodates a flexible programming integral to the education, recreation, and everyday life of the place.
