Li Xiong's team has been rooted in the field of landscape architecture for many years, leading the scientific planning, construction and development of Chinese garden cities and park cities. In February 2018, when General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Chengdu, he first proposed the concept of "park city". Li Xiong's team deeply analyzed the connotation of the park city concept, changing the old idea of "building a park in a city" to "building a city in a park". For many years, the team members have been committed to carrying out technical research related to scientific green space planning focusing on the concept of “park cities”, and providing programmatic guidance for the construction of green cities in China. They have led the formulation of national standards, industry standards, and group standards related to “garden cities” and “park cities”. They promote the creation of “ecological garden cities” and “garden cities” in China, as well as the pilot work of “park city” construction in the new stage. The team cooperated with Chengdu Park City Construction and Development Research Institute to carry out a series of planning and research work. In the project of "Ecological Landscape Planning and Technical Guidance of Tuojiang Corridor in Eastern Chengdu", the team members reconstructed the blue-green infrastructure system of the Tuojiang Corridor through the blue health assessment. A technical guide will be formed to directly guide the construction of the blue-green network and space along the Tuojiang River, providing an important basis for the organic integration of urban and blue-green space and the strengthening of the function of Tuojiang River as the ecological axis and ecological artery in the eastern part of Chengdu. Liuzhou, China, as a pilot city, successfully completed the first park physical examination. The team members focused on how to accurately grasp the connotation of the park in the new era and conducted an in-depth physical examination of the park. It improves the performance level of the park, promotes the maximization of the value of park services and promotes the healthy renewal of the park.

Xiong Li and his team members have also promoted the planning and design practice of China's major strategies, constructing a number of demonstrative urban and rural green space planning and design works. The team presides the landscape design project of the core area of Zhangjiakou competition area for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, the overall planning of the Kunming National Botanical Museum Park, the planning of the ecological green network of Beijing’s sub-center of the city, etc. They also preside over the construction of a number of large-scale urban event landscapes including the second Qinhuangdao Garden Expo in Hebei Province. For example, the landscape design project of the core area of Zhangjiakou competition area for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics has constructed an ecological landscape system of the core area of the Winter Olympics from the perspective of the whole life cycle. According to different scales and functions, the global ecological landscape from the core area of the Winter Olympics to the urban area of Chongli is divided into three spatial circles: the competition area venue circle, the supporting facilities circle, and the ecological base circle. Then, according to the attributes and needs of different circles, the planning and construction strategies are clarified. They built a Winter Olympics ecological scenic road connecting the core area of the Winter Olympics and the main urban area of Chongli, solving the problem of linkage development between Chongli urban area and the core area of the Winter Olympics in the post-Olympic era, and laying the background color of a beautiful China for the Winter Olympics. On the basis of respecting the current topography, the 2nd Qinhuangdao Garden Expo in Hebei Province has built an overall planning structure of "three valleys and one vein, three cores and two groups". In this design, the team members adopted new stormwater simulation technology, new rapid planting technology, new ecological and environmental protection construction methods and new varieties of garden plants, striving to show the style of contemporary garden technology and the construction of beautiful China from a multi-dimensional and innovative perspective. By making full use of the location advantages of Kunming's "Plant Kingdom", the overall planning project of Kunming National Botanical Museum Park will be constructed. The team members sorted out the site to reshape the landscape structure, integrated the existing rich scientific research and landscape resources, and created a "4+24" special garden system, 8 theme landscape areas, combined with the health care network and theme tour lines throughout the park. Li Xiong's team has built a high-quality public space integrating sightseeing, leisure and recreation, scientific research, popular science education, health care, and ecological protection, driving and promoting the high-quality development of the city, and effectively enhancing the people's sense of gain and happiness.
